Towards NetApps & Applications deployment over PaaS NetApp

Presenters: Hamzeh Khalili (CTTC) and  Sarang Kahvazadeh (CTTC)

A key challenge to media application developers is to provide a 5G-based secure and trusted experimentation playground through which media mobile app developers would have the opportunity to test and validate their applications in an integrated, open, and cost-efficient manner, to remove operational uncertain and reduce market entry barriers prior to being ported and deployed in industrial public 5G networks. To address this challenge, we need to have a high-level abstraction layer between media applications and the underlying 5G infrastructure, enabling experimenters to have a simplified but sufficient abstracted visibility of the infrastructure state for network-wide control and resource management. In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to dynamically deploy, orchestrate, and manage the media services through the Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Resource Reservation features and capabilities, to ensure service and workload isolation for 3rd party experimenters and NetApps developers.

Dr. Hamzeh Khalili received his bachelor’s degree in information technology from Assumption University of Thailand and Master degree in Information and Communication Technology, and a PhD in Network Engineering of Telematics, both from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) – Barcelona, Spain. He is currently researcher at CTTC, focusing at, 5G and beyond networks, 3GPP, ETSI MANO, Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Satellite and Terrestrial resource coordination, and network slicing research and innovation. He has also an extensive experience and research in EPON networks, network architecture and energy saving in optical networks, among others. Dr. Hamzeh Khalili has participated in several research projects, funded by the European Union (EU) and the Spanish government. He (co) authored many scientific articles published in high-profile journals, conferences, book chapter, and 5GPPP whitepaper. He has been chairman, co-chairman, and technical program committee in more than 10 IEEE conferences and workshops. Moreover, he served as a reviewer in IEEE Access, Optical Communication and Networking, Communication Systems and ACM Computing Survey journals, and conferences such as IEEE Meditcom, IEEE NetSoft, IEEE ICTON, NWCOM, EuCNC, to name a few examples.

Dr. Sarang Kahvazadeh received his Software Information Technology master degree from the University of Debrecen and his Ph.D degree (excellent cum laude) in Computer Architecture from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC). His Ph.D research title was Security architecture for Fog-To-Cloud continuum system. He is currently researcher at CTTC, focusing at, 5G infrastructure and Kubernetes as NFVI. He has been member of European projects such as H2020,5G Solutions, 5GmediaHuB, mF2C, H2020 CIPSEC, and GUAU. His research interests are cloud native application deployments over 5G infrastructure, Kubernetes and Openstack NFVI and, also NFVO (OSM). His research interests focus on the cloud-native applications, Kubernetes, multi-clustering orchestration, 5G infrastructure, information security and cyber security field.
